The Berkeley Institute presents Sister Act: The Musical-A disco-tastic spectacular

The Berkeley Institute Drama Programme is pleased to bring the Broadway hit musical, Sister Act: The Musical to Bermuda. Hosted at The Berkeley Institute Cafetorium on April 25th, 27th and 28th, this production is designed to highlight the fantastic talents of the more than 20 students featured in the play. Including stage management, lighting, sounds, and of course, acting and singing, this production is largely student run with the support of the Drama programme and the wider Art and Technical studies at The Berkeley Institute.

“The arts are a necessary part of education. They round out a student, having a creative outlet, while developing necessary skills like team work, public speaking, and developing self-confidence they embody for life,” shares Drama teacher and Director Ms. Joelle Williams. “It has happened through previous school productions, where students join the play, discover different talents, and gain a different perspective of self-awareness, which in turn helps them to become better students, looking at their future in a different light. It’s exciting to see.”

Sister Act: The Musical follows the storyline of the hit movie ‘Sister Act’ starring Whoopi Goldberg, who played Deloris, better known as Sister Mary Clarence, a Las Vegas performer, who sought sanctuary in a Covent after being witness to a heinous criminal act.  Using her sparkling people skills and love of music, she transformed a static choir into a phenomenal performing group, which in turn changed the landscape of the surrounding neighbourhood. This is a story of redemption and the power one person can have to positively influence their environment, regardless of their past.
